(Abstract)

Technical Debt (TD) refers to accumulated software issues that result from shortcuts and other suboptimal decisions during software development and maintenance. Companies and educators increasingly seek effective ways to train current and future employees in managing TD. Games have emerged as an innovative approach to teaching and practicing Technical Debt Management (TDM) activities both in industry and education. Games have the power to impact practitioners’ ability to understand TD in Software Engineering. This systematic mapping study examines such games. The primary goal is to identify all relevant games that support TDM learning and practice, regardless of the target audience.
