Software development is a knowledge-intensive and collaborative activity. However, practitioners may sometimes deliberately conceal or withhold information, ideas, or expertise relevant to software tasks, even when a teammate explicitly requests such knowledge. This is known as knowledge hiding behaviour (KHBs). This study explores what knowledge is hidden in software testing. A survey was designed based on measures of work conditions, KHBs, and knowledge related to software testing. Responses from 102 software practitioners were collected and analysed. Although only 13 participants reported KHBs, these should not be overlooked. Findings highlight the contextual nature of KHBs, suggesting that exploring KHBs in software teams is a promising avenue for future research.
